Mark Capitolo
Three Decades of Communications Leadership Experience
Mark Capitolo is a seasoned communications professional with over 30 years of experience in state government, media relations, and political and public affairs campaigns. Before restarting his firm in 2024, he helped advance the Sacramento office of a statewide public affairs agency.
Mark is the former California director of public advocacy for Kaiser Permanente, where he led health care policy communications on COVID-19 response, universal coverage, affordability, prescription drugs, mental health, labor relations, and other health care issues.
Prior to his work for Kaiser Permanente, Mark spent over 20 years managing communications and public affairs for businesses and labor unions. He also ran campaigns for dozens of Northern and Southern California candidates, including the 2012 Assembly campaign for Attorney General Rob Bonta. And he led media relations for numerous local and regional ballot measure campaigns to pass hundreds of millions of dollars in public financing for schools, parks and libraries, transportation, flood control, and public safety.
Beginning in 1995, Mark directed earned and paid media efforts for several progressive statewide ballot measure campaigns, as well as for children’s health public education clients. Mark also served as a communications director for State Senator Don Perata (ret.), supporting policy initiatives on mental health parity, assault weapons ban, and Oakland public school reform.
Mark began his career as a writer for the California Journal Weekly and The Sacramento Bee Elk Grove-Laguna Neighbors. He is a former board member of the California Voter Foundation and Yolo Family Service Agency.
A native of Daly City, Mark earned his Bachelor of Arts in Government from CSU Sacramento. He and his wife Jennifer live near the American River with their two sons DJ and Tommy.
